We've all felt that twinge of guilt when declining a “super urgent" client request. But here's something I've learned after years of late nights and sacrificed weekends: most "urgent" design requests aren't actually that urgent. They're often just poorly planned projects being reframed as emergencies – and suddenly becoming your emergency.
Every time I've honoured my boundaries and respectfully pushed back on artificial urgency, I've not only preserved my wellbeing but actually delivered better work. Because rushed work is rarely our best work. When you design your own urgency criteria, you're not being difficult – you're being professional. Your expertise deserves planning and respect, not last-minute panic. So, I challenge you to question the next "urgent" request that lands in your inbox. Is it truly urgent, or is it just unplanned?
Have you ever wondered how your logo designs would look in three dimensions? Adobe's Project Neo might be your new secret weapon.
This beta tool turns flat SVG artwork into interactive 3D objects – upload your vector design and instantly rotate it to view from different angles.
I've been playing with it this week, pulling the motif from a logo I'm designing to see how it translates to various brand collateral. It's surprisingly intuitive, even if you're new to 3D.
I've just added something new to DesignGuide° that I'm excited to share with you: my Web Developer's Tool Kit.
This kit features many of the tools I rely on when bringing website designs to life. I've deliberately kept this separate from my Brand Designer's Tool Kit because I know many of you focus purely on design and hand off development to someone else.
For those of you who, like me, handle both design and development, you'll notice I've highlighted Webflow-specific tools in green. I build exclusively in Webflow for its creative freedom, but I've made sure the kit is still valuable even if you're building with other platforms.
I'll be expanding this toolkit over the next month with additional resources and improving the UI/filtering options (I'll keep you updated in this newsletter). If there's something specific you'd love to see included, just hit reply and let me know – I'm building this resource for you, after all :).
