Prompt #1

Always just ask

It's easy to talk ourselves out of asking before we've even said anything. We assume the budget isn't there, so we quote lower. We assume they wouldn't want help with other things we could offer, so we don't mention it. We assume asking for a referral would be too much, so we don't ask.

The worst they can say is no, and even that moves things forward. People generally want to help when they can. Clients often have more flexibility than they let on. The answer will be yes more often than you'd expect – but only if you ask.

Prompt #2

Generate... vibes... with Vibe Palette

Colour is one of those things that can make or break a project. If you've read my guide to colour, you'll know I have a lot of thoughts on it – but even with a solid process, sometimes you just need a starting point. Vibe Palette by Tropical Type is a free tool that generates colour schemes based on, well, vibes. You pick a mood, adjust some sliders, and it generates a range of palettes you can grab the hex codes from.

It's not trying to replace your colour thinking. it's just a fun way to get inspired or unstuck. Give it a try at tools.tropicaltype.com.

Prompt #3

Animate logos with a draw-on effect

If you've ever wanted to animate a logo with that satisfying draw-on effect, check out SVG Artista. Just upload your SVG image and it will generate the draw-on animation for you. To use it on your website, you need to copy the SVG and CSS code – which is a little more complicated than just a simple download, but the how-to page explains the process (and also has some good general advice on how to set up your SVG). It's free (no signup – nice), and is the simplest way I've come across to get a draw-on animation without touching a timeline.

Head to svgartista.net to try it out.
